About

Living in Fear, Striving for Hope is a social media impact campaign based in co-creation techniques and oral narratives. Our goal is to ignite open and honest conversations about current issues affecting the Saint Joseph University community and those around us. We considered a large range of topics, from COVID-19 to systemic racism to the 2020 Presidential Election. As conversations continued and the project began to take form, we came to the realization that the common thread in all of the topics and the current world climate was fear.

However, from fear comes hope.

As a result, our campaign Living in Fear, Striving for Hope: 2020 A Year of Change was born.

Fear is present throughout the world, as well as on the SJU campus. To read more on the topic as it pertains to our campus, the following articles published by The Hawk Newspaper are a good place to start:

If you or anyone you know are experiencing any personal or social effects due to fear on or off campus, the university has resources that can help, including:

The Office of Student Outreach and Support; the SJU COVID website; HawkHub, for those experiencing food insecurity; the Bias Activity Review Group, which connects to Public Safety; CAPS (610-660-1090); TitleIX titleIX@sju.edu; REPP (*confidential support) 610-733-9650 (24 hr. Peer Helpline); or SJU Public Safety 610-660-1111.

We encourage all students to continue the conversation by sharing your own stories, using the #StartTalkingSJU hashtag.

All content was co-created with the narrators, who signed consent forms giving their permission for us to post it here and on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. The narrators retain ownership of all their individual content.

We encourage you all to be a part of our movement — students, staff, faculty. During these times, it is important that we stand together and be a part of the solution.

Come join the conversation and help make a change.
